FRTL Small Supplementary Research Grants for students and faculty

Call for Proposals: Field Research Teaching Lab (FRTL) Small Supplementary Research Grants for students and faculty

Applications are being accepted for the Bucknell Field Research Teaching Lab (FRTL) Supplementary Social Science Research Grants for the Summer-Fall 2016. All faculty and full-time Bucknell students conducting field-based social science research are eligible.

The FRTL Small Supplementary Grants aim to support faculty social science field research components unlikely to be supported elsewhere, and are intended as an additional or small funding source. Potential projects components could be (but are not limited to) interview transcription work, survey research, translation services, field research transportation, pilot or exploratory research, a small follow-up to a nearly completed project, or funding public dissemination of complete research. In addition to faculty researchers, students who need additional research stipends to round out their semester funding from other sources are also encouraged to apply.

Social scientists welcome, and actively seek out, community commentary on their findings and methods.  To both model and facilitate this, all faculty and students who receive FRTL grants will be expected to provide a brief written summary of their research project and findings, which will be posted to the FRTL webpage. Funded faculty and students will also be encouraged to disseminate their results by giving an informal brown bag lunch presentation organized by FRTL during the 2016-17 academic year, or present in a campus speaker series or poster session.

Since these grants are supplementary, please be sure to explain how these funds will be used in addition to other funding received or for which you have applied. The grants will be given up to the maximum of $1500 each.

To apply, please complete the application below and email it to the FRTL program assistant, Meg Martin (  If you have any questions, please contact the FRTL co-directors: Clare Sammells ( and Vanessa Massaro (

Application deadline is April 29th, 2016. Application form is here: CFP_Spring2016FieldGrants
